Drum Jargon Buster
Hardware:
Drum hardware refers to all the little extras that may not always be included in a drum kit. This can be the cymbal stands, the hi-hat stand and sometimes even the kick pedal or drum stool (or throne!) When looking at an entry level drum kit - be sure it includes all the hardware, and cymbals too!
Electric Drum Kit vs Acoustic Drum Kit:
This one is definitely a widely debated topic! An acoustic drum kit is of course the real deal. The sticks are hitting real drum skins and real cymbals giving all the nuances that only an acoustic instrument can provide. However the technology of electric drum kits have progressed quite far, providing a nice natural rebound feeling of the drums, very much similar to an acoustic kit. An electric kit offers many benefits for a beginner, such as being able to practice without disturbing the whole house, and practicing along easily to backing tracks or songs played from a phone. When starting out, there isn't really a right or wrong, it really just comes down to what is right for your situation.
